Friendly Tavistock Colts 17 Crediton Colts 24 TAVISTOCK Colts played a friendly against Crediton on Saturday and displayed some great running rugby despite losing. With captain Hammy out injured Carl Myatt and Mike Allen-Riddiough playing their first game coped well under a lot a pressure from a large bearded Crediton front row. Tavistock struggled to give their backs quality lineout ball without their main jumper Shawy out injured with a damaged hoof but some good running and driving play by second row pair Dingo Thompson and man of the match Mike Morgan gave scrum half Josh Bancroft some quick ball to feed his pacy backs going up the hill in the first half. This allowed Aaron Churchill to break through the centre and show the pace normally seen between the creases to score in the corner. Crediton had already kicked a penalty but a kick through Tavistock?s flat defence which failed to gather put them in front 5-10. Some good disciplined play by Josh O?Neil and a full game by Paddy Warlow in the back row produced ball for centre Mark Webber to show real pace to go outside his opposite number to run half the length to score under the post for Rob Milligan playing his first Colts game to convert to bring the half time score to 12 -10. Playing down the slope second half Tavistock should have dominated but the quick ball started to dry up some missed tackles and not gathering a ball kicked through gave Crediton a try which they converted. This was a wake up call and Tavistock got back into Crediton?s 22. A five metre scrum was awarded and the pressure was put on by prop Jason Ward for captain Jake Chinn to pick from the base and drive over to level the score. Late in the game Crediton again kicked through; a player was pulled back and the referee decided he would have beaten Tavistock?s four defenders and scored ? so awarded a penalty try which they converted. This was a loss but not a disappointing display considering the first game for a number of players and the strength of Crediton?s pack. Tavistock Colts play Ivybridge away this week.
