THE MP for West Devon and Torridge, Geoffrey Cox, visited the Tavistock Scrapstore at its temporary home at the Molly Owen Centre last week.

There he met volunteers and organisers and was shown around by the chair of the volunteer steering committee, Ursula Mann

The committee is in the process of finding a permanent home and has made a grant application to Tavistock Town Council, which will be decided by the end of the month, for funding to help cover its initial costs in leasing a property. The scrapstore already has many individuals and organisations clamouring to use its services.

The scrapstore is a community organisation that provides raw materials for arts and crafts and also runs programmes and sessions to show how the recycled materials can be made into useful and attractive items.

Mr Cox said: 'I was impressed with the energy and determination of the volunteers and their commitment to run a self-financing and very worthwhile service to our local community.

'It is wonderful what can be made out of things that most people would discard as useless and I am sure that Ursula and her team, with a little initial help, will succeed in starting something we can be proud of.'
