WEST Devon and Torridge MP, Geoffrey Cox has this week commended the ingenuity of a local farmer for his efforts in creating a business park. John Worden from Broadwoodwidger has converted disused outbuildings on his farm into commercial units. The result has been that the once redundant site has been transformed into a thriving business park. Mr Cox, who opened the Wolf Valley Business Park last Friday, said: 'Many farms have struggled to overcome the problems which have plagued the industry since Foot and Mouth and some have been forced to give up. 'This initiative shows what can be achieved if farmers are given the support and means to diversify. However, Mr Worden's experience demonstrates how much is still to be done, especially to the planning system, to help those with the imagination to survive.' He added: 'This type of diversification may not be suitable in all cases. The Wolf Valley Business Park is in an ideal location, on the edge of the A30. 'However, it is just one way in which we can regenerate the rural economy, by allowing the farmer to gain income from leasing the buildings and providing opportunities for other businesses either to relocate here or for local businesses to expand and prosper.'
