INDEPENDENT business in Tavistock will be taking part in the second Totally Locally national Fiver Fest, next week (October 5 to 12), along with more than 40 other towns throughout the UK, encouraging shoppers back into their local town centres and high streets with £5 promotional offers.

Shops, cafés, restaurants and market traders taking part are putting on special £5 deals for the duration of the Fiver Fest campaign. Posters can be seen around the town and online promoting all of the Fiver offers.

Janna Sanders, manager of Tavistock BID, said: ‘The last national Fiver Fest was a huge success, with 41 towns and thousands of independent shops getting involved. We had some great press coverage and tremendous local support all serving to highlight how fundamental the health of the high street is to our town but most of all the businesses in the towns have started to work together to promote their town and each other, which is the easiest way to bring life back to the high street.

‘We’re joining in again with the nationally Totally Locally Fiver Fest not only to introduce some great bargains for local shoppers and to get people into businesses they may not usually visit, but also to showcase the town as a whole on a national stage. We have some new businesses taking part in October which is really encouraging. Tavistock really does have some great shops and businesses and the more we get that message out there the better.’

The Fiver Fest promotes the main Totally Locally message — ‘If every adult in Tavistock spent just £5 a week with their local independent shops and businesses instead of online or at the bid supermarkets or chain stores it would be worth £2.6-million going directly into our local economy’.
