A PROGRAMME detailing a whole host of mouth-watering events has been published this week, aimed at promoting a series of special events taking part in the area later this autumn.
The programme highlights the second Devon Celebration of Food, which is timed to coincide with traditional harvest festival time. Events are being held by food producers, hotels, pubs, shops, community groups, schools and colleges during the nine-day celebration.
Highlights of the food festival, which runs from October 4 to 12, include an apple day, lecture lunches, cookery demonstrations, mushroom forays, food and wine tastings and farmers? markets.
In West Devon, there will be apple pressing demonstrations, tastings and goods for sale at Westlake Farm, Beaworthy, on October 5, while on October 11, St Andrew?s School at Buckland Monachorum will hold a Bramley Apple Day with stalls, competitions, craft stands and demonstrations.
Apples will also be the focus of events being held at the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford, which between October 4 and 12 will be serving a special set lunch and dinner menu focused on apple cider, with a special cider supper on October 10.
On October 4, Dartmoor Happy Hogs will be holding a ?Bountiful Barbecue? with a hog roast in Okehampton?s Red Lion Yard, while on the same day, Okehampton Farmers? Market takes place in the Charter Hall. Joining the market will be students from Okehampton College, who will be taking part in a cookery competition using local ingredients.
A ?Big Breakfast? using only local produce will be on offer at the Plume of Feathers in Okehampton on October 7.
Rabbits are the focus of a special day at the Warren House Inn near Postbridge on October 9, when the pub has organised a three-mile walk to an ancient rabbit warren, followed by a traditional rabbit pie lunch, while a special cheese-tasting day will be held at Country Cheeses in Tavistock on October 10.
The Devon Celebration of Food is part of the Discover Devon campaign, launched in April, which has already attracted thousands of extra visitors to the county.
It is co-ordinated by Devon Food Links, an initiative developed by the county council.
