MOUNT House First XI put in a very good performance against Exeter Cathedral School, with the catching and fielding showing significant improvements compared with recent matches.
In addition to getting these basics right, the Mount House team took advantage of their opportunities including run-outs, and only a defiant last-wicket partnership of 26 allowed Exeter Cathedral School to reach a total of 81 before they were all out.
Jonnie Massey took two wickets for six runs and Henry Lopes two for 13.
In their reply, Mount House lost early wickets before sensible batting by Coombs (12), Jackman (21), Lambeth (13 no) and Harding (20 no) turned the game, and enabled Mount House to pass the Exeter total with five wickets down and just four balls to spare.
This was an excellent team effort with everyone contributing.
l MOUNT House School met Kelly College in the first round of the Under-12 Devon cricket cup, and won by 6 wickets to progress to the second round.
Kelly batted first and, with the exception of one batsman struggled to score against some useful Mount House bowling. Louis Smith and Oliver Rose took three wickets each as Kelly limped to a total of 50 all out.
In their reply, Guy Gillard and Smith both batted sensibly for Mount House, and ran well between the wickets.
Mount House passed the Kelly total with 4 overs and six wickets to spare.
This was a competent performance, and should give the Mount House team some encouragement as they come up against Okehampton College in the next round.
