MOUNT House School U13 and U11 girls' teams gave a good account of themselves at the Devon Hockey Championships at Exeter, with the U13s only losing in the final in a sudden death shoot out. The U13 team came through the group stages undefeated in the Devon Sevens, winning four and drawing one. After wins against Teignmouth (3-0), Riviera (1-0), Ivybridge (2-0) and Exmouth (1-0), the Mount House girls drew 0-0 with Exeter School to secure a place in the semi-finals. Here they met Maynard's School, and after a closely fought match emerged winners by a single goal. In the final against Isca, it was goalless at full time, but then Isca scored to win in a sudden-death play-off. So Mount House achieved second place in the county championships, and ended with the best defensive record of any team in the tournament. In the U11 girls' Devon Mini-Hockey Championships, Mount House were drawn in the stronger pool. They drew a tense and exciting match with Blundell's, holding defensive lines well and attacking strongly for a goalless draw. Next came Plymouth Marjon, and the Mount House girls used their stick skills and support on the post to win 2-0 with goals from Ellie Hayward and Poppy Hartley. They scored an excellent victory over a skilful Exmouth Hockey Club team, before losing to Maynard's in their last group game, and losing out on a semi-final place by the finest of margins as Blundell's went through. l Pictured above are the Mount House U13s from left to right: Charlotte Pickard, Freya Semken, India Leigh, Lucy Sharp, Charlotte FitzGerald, Barnie Goldstone, Ella Hartley, Thea Dickinson, Michelle Pearn and Fern Toynton. The only team not to concede a goal, only to be knocked out in the second phase of the penalty shoot-outs.
