Tavistock Colts 18 Newton Abbot Colts 7 IN the last league game of the season, Tavistock beat visitors Newton Abbot in a fast and exciting match. The Tavistock forwards subdued a big, mobile Newton Abbot pack, thus denying their threes any decent ball for most of the game. When this ball did come, the Tavistock defence held firm with Dan Smith and Dave Goodspeed outstanding in the tackle. Scrum half Smith scored two tries in the first half and was a constant thorn in the side of the visitors. His first came after an error by the opposition full back and the second after a mazy run through the defence on the right wing. Tavistock eased off slightly in the second half when Newton Abbot crossed the line after a number of forward phases, but Tom Vanstone?s two penalties to add to his one first half conversion secured the win. There were strong displays by all the squad of 19 who took part, but man of the match was Sam Morton at number 8 who kicked, tackled and drove effectively all game.
