A MORRIS dance side formed late last year already has a full summer programme of bookings and is looking for new members to help cope with demand.

Wreckers Morris is centred on the Tamar Valley, drawing its members from a wide area including East Cornwall, Plymouth and West Devon.

Wreckers is a mixed side, with around equal proportion of men and women in its 20 strong membership.

'For such a young side to have so many members and to be in such demand so early on is very encouraging indeed,' said squire Graham Leigh.

Wreckers dance mainly Border style morris and wear a uniform of black and gold to reflect the side's mainly Cornish heritage.

Bagman Paul White said: 'Morris dancing is incredibly good exercise. So after our weekly practice we certainly feel we have earned a drink.

'We are mostly complete beginners and we would welcome enquiries from anyone who is experienced or just fancies having a go.'

Wreckers is also looking for musicians.

'The more dancers and musicians we can muster, the better set we are to meet all our future commitments,' said Paul.

Wreckers practise on Thursday evenings at St. Dominick. This summer's bookings include Devon Day of Dance, Tavistock Steam Fair, Polperro festival and the Royal Cornwall Show. There will also be a programme of pub appearances.
