C D C Challis has many good points in the letter of March 28.
A large number of homes have been built in the West Devon area in the last few years. I am not certain when the core strategy was first put together but I believe the target for West Devon was 1,500 new homes.
Since its inception I am sure that a good number have already been built but no adjustment has been made to the number of homes planned as large blocks in Okehampton and Tavistock.
I live in the 'village' of Yelverton where hardly a month goes by without new homes being built. It is interesting that the argument that children brought up in a village cannot afford to stay in the village; recently built new 'affordable' homes in Yelverton did not seem to be exclusively occupied by Yelverton families.
I suppose that nothing anybody writes in the Times will stop the 750 houses being built; after all, the land has now been zoned for development. But I am cynical enough to believe that it is nothing to do with meeting West Devon Borough Council's obligations but perhaps more to do with an anticipation of lots more council tax money.
