AN EPILEPSY support group has been set up in Tavistock for sufferers and their families. The group meets on the first Saturday of the month at Kingdon House from 3.30pm to 5.30pm where people can drop in for a tea or coffee and a chat. One of the founders of the group, Alistair Holmes, whose epilepsy was diagnosed four years ago after a serious car accident, said a support group was much needed in the area. ?It will be a chance for people to talk about their problems and find out where they can go for help,? said Alistair. ?There is only one specialist Sapphire nurse covering the whole of the Derriford catchment area so our aim is to raise funds so we can get one here.? Alistair said doctors believed he may well have been born with epilepsy but it took nearly 40 years to clinically diagnose him with the condition. He said there were many other people in his position: ?I was told that for every person who is diagnosed with epilepsy there is someone else who is not.? Anyone who can help on the committee or with fundraising ideas is also being urged to contact 07880 777069. The first fundraiser for the support group is a dance is being held on November 9 in Tavistock Town Hall. Tickets are available at Kingdon House or the Tavistock Bus Station kiosk.
