TIDY Tavi organisers were delighted to be able to support the Work Matters organisation, part of Learn Devon based at the Alexander Centre, last week.

A group of seven adults with learning difficulties were kitted out with litter pickers, high visibility jackets, hoops and rubbish bags. They then took to the streets of Tavistock on Friday (April 29) with members of the organisation’s staff, to help clean up the town before the May Day bank holiday.

Visiting the central part of town, the group were pleased to find that while not spotless, the streets and alleyways were generally very clean and tidy. Nevertheless, the venture was a great success and much enjoyed by all the participants. Thanks were expressed to Jane Miller and Caroline Ross who kindly set it all up.

Tidy Tavi’s next venture will begin at the Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10 am on Saturday (May 7).

‘If you would like to help keep up the good work, please come along and do your bit,’ said volunteer Steve Hipsey.

‘You don’t necessarily need to commit to the full two hours, but most volunteers find that once they set out, the experience is really satisfying and perhaps even a little addictive. The walking exercise is definitely worthwhile in its own right!’
