AN urgent call has gone out for volunteers to help make one of the largest community events in the South West bigger and better than ever. The Sticklepath Fireshow Committee is in need of volunteers, especially new committee members and volunteers to take on specific roles for the preparation of the fireshow. Chief among these roles is the need for a secretary, a wood collector and a safety officer. There will be plenty of help and advice on hand for anyone new taking on any of these roles. A spokesman for the committee said: 'With this being our 25th year we are hoping to produce our best show to date and the time is perfect for anyone to get involved —work on the story and wood collecting has already begun. 'The fireshow has become the bonfire night celebration for the whole of the Okehampton area and you do not need to live in Sticklepath to become involved.' The Sticklepath Fireshow was born a quarter of a century ago from a chat in a pub and has now grown to one of the largest annual community events in the South West. However it will not be able to carry on forever without new volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Janice Goodwin, chair of the Sticklepath Fireshow committee, on 01837 840136 or by e-mailing [email protected]">[email protected] More information about the fireshow, including its history, details of past events and photographs, is available at http://www.sticklepathfireshow.org.uk">www.sticklepathfireshow.org.uk
