A GARDEN designed and tended by the Pathfinder department of an East Cornwall-based college is now being used as a working base by the Cornwall Society for the Blind. The enthusiastic gardeners from the society had been looking for a site to use in East Cornwall and the talented students at Duchy College in Stoke Climsland were happy to offer their extensive facilities. The Pathfinder garden was designed and created by horticulture instructor Pat Butt and her students ten years ago. It soon became an inspirational learning centre for the students, with herbaceous borders and shrubberies. The Cornwall Society for the Blind now uses the garden on a monthly basis. Lynda Dell'Anno, head of department, said: 'Duchy College is very proud of the achievements of our Pathfinder students. We are delighted to be able to help the Cornwall Society for the Blind, and the students themselves are working on various new gardening projects with the continued support of the college staff.' Andrew Counsell, principal of Duchy College, said: 'Our students are very pleased to support local organisations such as the Cornwall Society for the Blind.' The popular garden now includes three greenhouses, three polytunnels and a pond, complete with a waterfall.
