A PROJECT to improve facilities at a local church has taken another stride towards success, following a significant grant from a local action fund.

Throwleigh Parochial Church Council has been awarded a further £9,300 in funding by the Greater Dartmoor Local Enterprise Action Fund to help it build toilet facilities at the church.

It is hoped the facilities will make the 15th century building a better venue for concerts and other community events. They will also be open for use by walkers and cyclists on the Mariners' Way footpath and Dartmoor Way cycle path.

A spokeswoman from the Greater Dartmoor LEAF said: 'We felt this project would be of great benefit to a huge variety of people in the community, and will help the church attract more visitors. There is also a wider benefit to the project as well, with the facilities being open to people passing through the village.'

As reported in the Times last week, the PCC recently received £9,200 in lottery funding towards the project. Construction is to begin shortly.
