THE OFFICIAL launch of the ?Moor to Stay For? campaign takes place this month, with lots of activities to celebrate Dartmoor. The programme, which begins in mid-September and runs through to May 2006, will promote Dartmoor and all it has to offer, with the aim of enticing people into staying in the area for longer visits. The National Trust, English Nature, Forestry Commission, RSPB, Devon Discovery, National Park Authority and several other Dartmoor-based organisations have all worked together to provide exciting weekend events, to suit all ages and tastes. The first event, the Heritage Weekend, took place between Friday and Sunday, 9 and 11 September and took a look at Dartmoor?s archeological, architectural and cultural history, through talks and guided walks. Jeff Haynes, director of Understanding and Enjoyment for Dartmoor National Park, said: ?We piloted ?Moor to Stay For? in autumn 2004 with the help and support of many Dartmoor-based organisations and accommodation providers, who were keen to extend an out of season warm welcome to visitors and ensure that they made the most of their stay. ?I am delighted that, this year, the ?Moor to Stay For? programme is being extended, with even more to enjoy. There really is something for everyone.? For a list of all the events taking place between September and May, a free publication is available from the National Park Authority Information Centres, Tourist Information Centres and Libraries or you can call the Devon Tourist Association on 01822 890567.
