Okehampton Ladies' 2nds 2

Mannamead Ladies' 4th 0

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Bickley Barracks on Sunday to play Mannamead in the Plymouth and District League.

The young Okehampton team gelled together well with captain Sarah Jones spreading the ball around the pitch to her players. Inside forwards Brieze Read and Hannah Whitely worked hard to provide the forwards with good balls.

The first half was an evenly fought contest with both teams having goalscoring chances but solid defending from Sophie Whitely and Katy Graves kept Mannamead at bay.

THe second half saw Okehampton playing an accurate passing game which resulted in two quick goals.  Right half Nat Dennis gave the ball to team-mate Brieze Read who passed it out wide to right wing Grace Thorpe. Thorpe skillfully beat her defender before crossing the ball into the Mannamead circle. Centre forward Kim Davey was perfectly placed to receive the ball and make no mistake in finding the back of the net.

Okehampton were in attacking mode and within minutes Hannah Whitely had scored their second goal after a goalmouth scuffle.

Mannamead retaliated with some forceful attacks forcing Okehampton keeper Jo Moppet to make several crucial saves.

Joint players of the match: Grace Thorpe and Kim Davey.

On Sunday the 2nds play host to Callington in the league at 2.30pm on the college all-weather pitch.
