Chagford 1
Exeter University 2
COMING up against a strong University team that has started the season well, Chagford were able to welcome back Steve Scott and Gavin Forsey from long-term injuries.
Chagford started well and put the visitors' defence under early pressure. Unfortunately, three minutes lack of concentration was paid for dearly as University knocked in two goals from two similar attacks, midway through the half.
The younger students were lively, developed their forward play well and forced Saul Scarry into a couple of important saves.
Chagford were no slouches themselves and pulled a goal back on 31 minutes. Scott's long cross-field ball found Andrew Davis in acres of space and the side's top scorer coolly lobbed the onrushing 'keeper.
Half-time came with Chagford back in the ascendancy and more than one watcher commenting on the good football. The second half all but belonged to the hosts as they pressed for a second goal but the students held on for the win.
n Chagford firsts welcome Honiton Town this week, kick-off 3pm.
