EQUINE enthusiasts hacked across Dartmoor on Sunday, raising £1,000 for an autistic boy in Tavistock. Three-year-old Paul Lewis who was diagnosed with autism a year ago has seen a variety of fundraising events take place to help him. Sunday?s event saw riders tackle a 15-mile ride across the moors. Doreen Cossins led her team from White Tor to Spooner?s Kennels in Sampford Spiney; while the second team, made up of riders and quad bikers, was headed by Guy Morlock, starting from Soussons, Postbridge, before also finishing in Sampford Spiney. The Lewis family have been raising money to help with Paul?s condition after Allen Lewis attended a course run by the Son-Rise Program of America for Autism which offers comprehensive help on working and living with austistic children. The money raised will go towards a specially fitted playroom complete with electronics and mirrors to help engage Paul?s attention and improve his learning ability, which has already rapidly increased. The Lewis family is exceptionally grateful to all the riders who helped to raise the funds. Each was presented with a medal. The Round Table has also offered to pay for final materials and equipment needed. The family is currently looking for volunteers over the age of 16 to work with Paul.
