THE literary heritage of Chagford is to be celebrated with an exhibition of written works later this year.
Among those who have lived and worked in Chagford are well-known luminaries such as Evelyn Waugh, who wrote Brideshead Revisited while staying at the Easton Court Hotel.
Mary Wesley, author of The Camomile Lawn, lived in Chagford for many years while RD Blackmore, who visited Chagford and heard the local legend of Mary Whiddon and her death at the hand of her jealous suitor, adapted the tale for his heroine Lorna Doone.
Many others have written famous works while in Chagford, like Sam North, the author of Booker Prize long-listed book The Outnumbered.
St Michael's Church will host Ex Libris, an exhibition of written works with connections to Chagford from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27.
The exhibition will recognise those who have provided readers and performers with words and ideas for information and for pleasure, and provide pleasure for the visitors they browse among books and flowers.
The exhibition runs from 10am to 6pm on July 25 and 26, and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, July 27.
