Vivis A League U14s Callington 2 Tavistock Girls 6 THIS local derby involving two top teams proved to be a match worth watching. Callington sportingly played in their away kit as a clash of colours would have meant Tavistock playing with bibs. Tavistock started well and within minutes went ahead after superb one-twos from Hammond and Rose with a fine finish from Rose. Occky Saunders, playing left wing, broke down the Callington defence and with Rose on fine form set up Moody for a run down the right wing to smash home. Callington were always strong on the break. Glasspoole and Shaw had to work hard to stop the breaks. Rose worked tirelessly and when she put Saunders through her left foot rocked the back of the net. After a confusing incident in the Tavistock goalmouth a penalty was awarded and although Maguire went the right way Callington pulled one back. Shortly before half-time Tavistock went further ahead after Gordon slotted home. The second half saw Callington pull another goal back after some fine passing. This woke Tavistock and Eales broke through to have a cracking shot saved. At the other end Callington were strong on the breaks and for ten minutes the goal was pounded with Maguire diving and saving at players' feet. A long clearance from Shaw was latched onto by Glasspoole whose shot was deflected into the goal. Moody shone in the second half and took on her marker to beat her by speed — she crossed in Gordon was there to tap home. Player of the match: Becks Rose. Tavistock Girls U12s 0 Plympton Girls U12s 3 THIS was Tavistock's best performance of the season by far — the scoreline does not reflect the game. Tavistock were superb in all areas. The defence of Basset, Oliver and Piper showed great tackling and Plympton could not find any way through. Tavistock looked dangerous on the break with strong running by Case and Longdon into the Plympton half. Hodge was isolated up front, but had some brilliant touches when given the opportunity. McCall in goal had to pull off some good saves to keep Plympton out. Leech and Ashworth came onto the pitch as Tavistock went for the winner. Ashworth was unlucky to see her shot skip past the post. Leech put in some goal-saving tackles. Plympton got the breakthrough halfway through the half. This was followed in quick succession by two more, mainly due to Tavistock's frustration. Player of the match: Amy Basset. Manager's player: Jolene Piper.
