A MODEL garden railway created by an East Cornwall artist will be open to the public later this month. The Glenrock Model Railway in Gunnislake, built by Ian Pethers, is open next week with the aim of raising money for Action Aid ? one of the UK?s largest charities. Ian built his first garden railway at his parents? home in Slough 35 years ago. The railway he has today is partly a recreation of the original, based on the area around Windsor and includes a castle with its own band. The collection of ?0? gauge trains features many old Hornby tinplate locomotives, coaches and wagons. The line is a 180ft circuit, crossing the landscape via cuttings, embankments and bridges with a fully weatherproof track. ?The fascination lies in the combination of my two hobbies of model-making and gardening. If I can turn this to good use it is all the more worthwhile,? said Ian. Action Aid is dedicated to helping poor communities overcome poverty and build a better future. The Glenrock Model Railway will open to the public from 10am to 5pm on Sunday August 27. Admission is £2 and £1 for concessions.
