A MODEL of Tavistock North railway station is looking for a new home.
The layout, which is in need of completion and includes the approaches to the station and the viaduct, was started by John Robinson, who sadly died before it was completed.
The family is not in a position to complete the project and son-in-law Geoffrey Stowell, of Bere Alston said: 'We are reluctant to simply junk it and would very much like to hear from any modeller who might be interested in taking it over.'
The basic structure consists of three six-foot modules and Mr Stowell thinks it would probably be best regarded as a potential museum exhibit.
He said: 'The workmanship is of a very high order and would appeal to someone who puts craftsmanship before speed.
'It was built for the specialised Proto 4 gauge and 50 to 70 per cent of the topography is complete, but there are no buildings or line, although there are some part-completed carriages.'
Mr Robinson, a former squadron leader, learnt his engineering skills as a boy apprentice at RAF Halton, making stick and string aeroplanes in pre-Spitfire days.
Also available are detailed drawings of the station from an 1890 copy of 'The Engineer' and detailed contoured plans from Mr Robinson's own surveying.
'My father-in-law derived his pleasure from the process of making models rather than completing them,' added Mr Stowell.
