Okehampton 3
United Services A 1
OKEHAMPTON men?s hockey club entertained United Services in the Gerrard League on Saturday and with a number of enforced changes knitted together well.
Good running from the Okehampton forwards created gaps in the US defence. Mark Parsons ran onto a through ball and deflected it neatly past the keeper to open the scoring for Okehampton.
Okehampton attacked well down the flanks and were rewarded with a penalty corner. Colin Lethbridge made no mistake with a well taken shot.
US were quite dangerous on the break, but stand-in keeper Darren Phare marshalled his defences with confidence.
Olly Tallowin and Paul Feehan worked tirelessly in midfield for Okehampton and Mike Reynolds tackled strongly.
Okehampton added to their lead soon after half time. Richard Jones attacked the circle and his accurate pass gave Mark Parsons the chance to score his second.
United Services worked hard to get back into the game, and despite the best efforts of the defence broke through and scored a consolation goal.
This week Okehampton travel to play Torbay C.
Okehampton Columbines 3
United Services 4
OKEHAMPTON ladies? hockey team got off to another good start when they scored early in the game. United Services responded and Okehampton lost their shape, making it easy for the opposition to push forward.
United equalised and went ahead just before half-time.
Alex Collins, Elaine Morgan and Debbie Pritchard in midfield held their ground in the second half, allowing Sue Stanbury space to spearhead a more promising attacking game.
Unfortunately an injury to Okehampton?s young centre forward meant an ambulance had to be called.
Columbines understandably lost concentration and conceded two careless goals.
This galvanised Columbines into action and from then United Service?s goal was under siege.
A Sue Stanbury strike from a corner was stopped by a foot on the line and Columbines were awarded a penalty ? coolly taken by Jo Moppett.
When another corner involving the same two players resulted in a goal from Moppett?s deflection it looked like Okehampton could get a point, but time ran out for them,
This week, Columbines are home again in the league to Plym Valley.
