A TAVISTOCK football fan is aiming to attract a record crowd to Langsford Park this month to watch the Lambs take on Millbrook FC in the Jewson South Western League Cup match.
Lance Blackmore is on a mission to increase the regular band of supporters at the Tavistock ground and is planning a concentrated promotion of the club.
He is aiming to pull in more than 500 people to the match on September 30 — and he hopes many will become regular visitors to Langsford Park.
Mr Blackmore said: 'I've sent letters to every single business in Tavistock with the fixture list, I've written to everyone at Millbrook, all members of TAFC and I've put posters and stickers all round Tavistock.'
Mr Blackmore said Tavistock's first and second teams are top of the league at present.
'It doesn't get any better than that,' he said. 'It's a home grown team and they're doing really well — we're the envy of everybody with our facilities but we just don't have the crowds to watch them.'
Mr Blackmore said he has had a 'fantastic' response from businesses willing to help the club and sponsor prizes for a raffle on the day of the Millbrook game.
'People have been really positive. I've got donations from loads of people, there are Carlsberg sports bags, socks and glasses, bottles of wine etc.
'I've also got four ball girls for the match and they are getting engraved medals donated from Honours and Awards in Bere Alston,' he said.
Mr Blackmore is hoping to have a live lamb 'mascot' on the match day and said he has 'loads of ideas' to promote the club and raise its profile.
'It's a lovely place — I just want people to get interested and have a bit of passion for it.
'I'm going to do it — it's going to happen,' he said.
