TAVISTOCK Museum hosted one of the first meetings of the Cornish Mining Attractions Marketing Association (CMAMA) in the Rundle Room at Tavistock Town Hall last week. The Museum is one of 17 organisations in the association, which has been set up following the designation of World Heritage Status to mining areas in Cornwall and West Devon. One of the objectives of the association is to market and to promote the mining heritage as a group, rather than as individual attractions or organisations. The meeting was attended by 25 representatives from organisations including Geevor, King Edward?s Mine and Morwellham, as well as tramway paths, mining conservation areas and town museums ? all welcomed by newly elected mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Anne Johnson. Roderick Martin, secretary of the local history society, said the museum had supported the world heritage bid for many years and was delighted the museum had been able to host one of the association?s first meetings. Leaflets about the mining attractions are available from the Tourist Information Centre and from Tavistock Museum.
