A MINIBUS service will be introduced to villagers at Sydenham Damerel on Tavistock?s Dickensian Evening (December 7). The service has been launched as part of a new initiative to involve villagers and residents from the surrounding hamlets, in the area?s activities. Tavistock Area Support Services? general manager, Andy Lyle, is supporting the initiative to get the community involved and has agreed to run the minibus service from Sydenham Damerel into Tavistock. It will be introduced on Friday, December 7 in the village hall at 5.30pm with coffee, tea and mince pies. The minibus will then leave at 6pm for Tavistock, calling at Milton Abbot on the way, and return at around 8pm. Call 01822 615199 to book a seat. The initiative started recently when Sydenham Damerel Methodist Church was awarded a grant by Devon Renaissance for improvement to their village hall. The hall is the only community facility in the village, and the church council has recently made it available to local people. But current regulations required changes to the building, including a disabled access. So over the last eight months there has been a considerable amount of fundraising for the project. More than £23,000 has been raised from the local Methodist Circuit, Plymouth and Exeter District, Devon Renaissance and the church?s own funds. It is hoped the building work will be complete in February.
