OKEHAMPTON-based firm Peninsula Milk have reported record demand for July across their range of milk and creams.
The bumper month has been welcomed by chief executive Nick Bateman, who said it was good news for the dairy farmers in the area who supplied the firm.
?Following on from the award of a gold medal for our Peninsula clotted cream by the Taste of the West earlier this year, we have experienced an increasing demand for this and our other cream products.? he said.
?This demand is not only from the buoyant retail sector, but also from our clients in the food processing and national supermarket sectors.
?All this is very good news for our regional dairy producers who have had a tough time during the recovery period from the foot and mouth crisis of 2001,? said Mr Bateman.
?We are now looking forward to a secure future for our regional branded products.
?Now we need more quality milk producers to supply us and are confident we have an attractive milk contract to reward high quality milk,? Mr Bateman added.
Peninsula Milk was formed in 1994 by a group of West Devon dairy farmers.
A new processing unit at Okehampton was opened five years ago to market the regional Peninsula brand of milk and cream products.
Peninsula has created more than 100 new jobs since it started and has also created full time employment opportunities in the milk collection and distribution sectors.
