PEOPLE who are dealing with or have previously faced issues with their mental health are being invited to come forward and share their story for a proposed series of short interviews.

Adam Hitchcock, who works in Tavistock, is currently undertaking a huge fundraising mission for the charity MIND — to get a date with Hollywood star Drew Barrymore to thank her for being an inspiration to him while he was dealing with his own mental health battles.

Adam has jumped through many hoops in recent weeks to get in contact with people close to Drew Barrymore to ask her for a meeting so he can hopefully thank her in person for speaking out about her own experience with mental health, which helped him through his. He is currently waiting to hear back on Drew’s answer.

When starting the quest to ‘get a date with Drew’ Adam was under no illusion that it would definitely happen, but his main aim was to document his journey via video journal all while raising money and awareness for mental health charity MIND.

During the process so far, Adam said a number of people have reached out to him with stories of their own mental battles and now he is keen to make a series of short documentaries with willing participants to share their experiences for others to watch.

He said: ‘While doing this, I have come across a number of people who have opened up about their experiences. While I’m waiting I would like to video some one-to-one interviews with people who are willing to share their stories to help others.

‘It’s an important issue and I want to fundraise for MIND without just relying on the Thank you Drew quest. A lot of people suffer with various mental health issues and now it is more talked about, more people are opening up about their experiences so I want to help raise awareness.’

Adam said he was unsure how he would go about making the documentary as yet, but hoped that if he had some interview footage, he would be able to approach companies and broadcasters to help. He has already approached the BBC with his idea and it has expressed an interest.

Anyone who would be willing to talk about their experiences can contact Adam via email on barry [email protected] or 07497 472542.
