A CHARITY comic football match will be held in memory of Okehampton resident Laura Bennett, who died 12 months ago with cancer, aged 39.
The men versus women match, to be held on July 25 at Okehampton Argyle in Simmons Park, will be in aid of Yarty Ward and the intensive care unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Wonford.
The men's team, Riksters Rebels, will be captained by Laura's son, Rikki, and the women's team, Laura's Liver Birds, will be captained by her sister, Clare.
Players include relatives, friends and nursing staff from the RD&E Wonford. The match ball has been donated by Exeter City Football Club.
Laura's family said: 'Since Laura's tragic and untimely passing, just 12 months ago, our family, spurred on by the overwhelming amount of money donated at Laura's celebration of her life, decided to help our grieving hours by raising funds to make life more bearable for patients and families by providing simple pleasures to help ease the terribly difficult times they have to endure.
'We also wanted to provide much needed equipment for the nursing staff to aid their day to day running of the wards.'
There will also be a draw, pitch-side collection, bouncy castle and refreshments.
Laura's family expressed thanks to Heather Sandercock, who has continued to support Okehampton football with all their needs, Okehampton Argyle Football Club for their help and to everyone who has sponsored the programme.
All are welcome to come along and watch the match on Sunday, July 25, kick-off at 2pm in Simmons Park.
