IT WAS a busy but successful week for the men's section of Tavistock Bowls Club last week when they won two out of three league matches and reached the final of the Littleton Cup.
On Wednesday, local rivals Bere Alston were soundly beaten with Tavistock only losing on one rink and that by only one shot.
The best rink on the night was that skipped by Roy Northam and his team of Malcolm Bloomer, Sandy Sanders and David Perry.
On Thursday the team accounted for Plymstock thanks to a fine win by Eric Stevens, Pat Sykes and some good front-end woods from Norman Paramor and Tony Coombs.
Friday night saw the semi-final of the Littleton Cup when Plymouth Area Police were the opposition at Central Park in Plymouth.
Tavistock were again in fine form, winning three of the four rinks to reach the final which will take place at Civil Service against Plympton today (Thursday).
Roy Northam was again top rink, assisted by Malcolm Bloomer but with two new frontend bowlers in Gordon Northey and Phil Jury.
No-one could have predicted these results when on the Tuesday the club again lost heavily to Sir Walter Raleigh who are proving to be a bogey team.
The ladies' league team beat Plymstock Bees away to take four of the six points available, best rink being that of Marion Allen, Gill Saunders, Marlene Paramor and Freda Isaac.
The ladies' match against Bere Alston was a complete reversal of the men's match. The best that the Tavistock ladies could produce was a draw on one of the three rinks.
Previously, the ladies had beaten their other local rivals, Yelverton, well with Jenny Tremaine skipping her rink of Audrey Northam, Ann Doidge and Marlene Paramor for the best rink score of the afternoon.
On Saturday a mixed team travelled by coach to Teignmouth and although all enjoyed a day by the sea found the green difficult to bowl on. Only Rob Bowhay and his rink of Fred Hodge, Ann Doidge and Marlene Paramor managed a plus score.
