LAST week was quieter for Tavistock Bowls Club with only three mixed matches, one men's league match and a ladies' friendly.
A touring team from Chelmsford, the guests on Wednesday, were beaten in a tight game thanks to the efforts of the rink of John Smith assisted by Wallace Northey, Charlie Cummings and Brian Preece.
John and Wallace again showed the way in the club's convincing win over Teignmouth, this time with the help of Valerie Southern and Ernie Piper.
Despite a good win for the rink of Yvonne Meneer, Gordon Northey, Audrey Northam and Ernie Piper, Tavistock were narrowly beaten on a visit to Bodmin.
The ladies' friendly match against Lee Moor saw Tavistock win on both rinks, with the top rink being that of Betty Browse, Jill Lacayo, Audrey Northam and Marlene Paramor.
A good win over Oreston saw the men's league team go joint top of their division with three games in hand.
This was achieved thanks to a fine win from the rink of Roy Northam, Malcolm Bloomer, Wallace Northey and David Perry.
This weekend the club competition finals are due to take place at 2.30pm each day.
The following weekend Tavistock will host the county finals, when the cream of the county will compete for honours.
Spectators are welcome to come and see these top bowlers in action, among whom will be a number of internationals.
