THREE RAF Harrowbeer Archive and Memorabilia Weekends are being held this year at Knightstone Tearooms in Yelverton. The first is over the Easter weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 11am to 4.30pm each day, the second is at the end of the May bank holiday and the third is during the August bank holiday. The events are laid on to make visitors and locals aware of what went on during the 1940s on a stretch of moorland close to Yelverton. It features how the village was split in half, the buildings, which were demolished, and roads re- positioned to make way for a second World War RAF Fighter Station. On display will be a diorama of the airfield as it would have been in 1943, a copy of the Stations Operation Record Book from when Harrowbeer was officially opened to the day it closed, and copies of some of the Squadrons Operational Record Books and numerous photographs. Also on site is a small museum containing artefacts and documents of the period. On Sunday and Monday at 2pm there will be a living history display and guided walks throughout the weekend.
