A GROUP dedicated to speaking up for older people in the Tavistock area is to hold a free public meeting on the topic of hearing impairment.

Anyone who is worried about their hearing, or would like to learn how to identify early signs of hearing loss and mitigate potential problems, is welcome to attend the talk by retired GP Ted Leverton, with back-up from hearing-aid specialist Alistair Kinsey.

Meeting co-organiser Mike Dennis of the Tavistock branch of Devon Senior Voice said: 'Losing your hearing, or even the fear that you might, is a worrying time for anyone and we wanted to give people the chance to ask questions.

'Although full testing will not be available at the meeting, there will be time to explore with experts what options are available.

'We are a welcoming and friendly group that offers companionship as well as a voice on the issues. After the meeting there will be an opportunity for those wishing to stay in town longer to have lunch in the Wharf Café.'

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 21 between 10.30am and noon at the John Taylor Centre, 5 Canal Road, Tavistock, PL19 8AT (part of the Wharf complex).
