THE people of Okehampton will have their first chance to see a number of renovation works in the Charter Hall this weekend at the town's annual mayoral coffee morning.
Over the last few months, the hall has undergone a series of renovations works. Mayor of Okehampton Cllr the Rev Mike Davies will host the coffee morning in the hall on Saturday, February 16, giving anyone interested in seeing the alterations the chance to come along.
Town councillors also felt the coffee morning would be a good time to meet residents and discuss issues in the town affecting them. Councillors will be available for discussion throughout the morning.
Cllr the Rev Davies said: 'Many individuals in Okehampton may have no idea who their local councillor actually is.
'There are others who may have questions about the town as it currently stands or the future of this wonderful town.
'The coffee morning will be an ideal time to come and ask any questions that you may have in a very informal way.'
The morning is organised each year to raise funds for the mayor's charities. The current mayoral charities are Children's Hospice South West, who will have a stand and information available, and the Okehampton Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The organisers of the Duke of Edinburgh Award will also be present with displays, photographs and information for those interested in knowing more about the scheme.
'The work of Children's Hospice South West is amazing and needs as much support as possible,' said Cllr the Rev Davies.
'Sadly, many local families have had to benefit from the support that they offer.
'In addition, I am simply amazed at how many younger people are involved within the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Okehampton. It is great to see so many of our younger folk taking the initiative to get involved.'
The coffee morning runs in the Charter Hall from 9am to noon. All are welcome.
