MARILYN Monroe brought some Hollywood glamour as she made a miraculous appearance in Okehampton last Friday, as filming for a new TV series took place at a location in the town.
The star?s famous glamorous pout was recreated by Joanne Taberer from Launceston who was filming scenes for a documentary reconstruction series charting the lives of famous historical figures through their medical records.
The filming was for one of three BBC3 shows called ?In the Body of?, which is likely to hit screens this summer.
Joanne, who does modelling and promotional work, was picked for her height and facial features.
She said there were lots of costume changes involved in recreating Marilyn?s glitzy world.
And she said recreating sunny California in Devon and Cornwall in chilly February presented its own problems.
?We did a pool scene and it was absolutely freezing,? she said.
?This is my first TV and it has been an experience. Now that I have done it, it is something I would like to get into more,? Joanne said.
But it was not all glamour ? for one scene she had to wear a straight jacket.
?It was a good experience. It was very different,? said Joanne.
?I learned a lot about Marilyn Monroe?s life from it ? I didn?t realise so much had happened. It is weird being back to reality!?
Rik Hall of filmmakers Tiger Aspect said Joanne had been a natural choice to play Marilyn. ?She looks very much like Marilyn as soon as she puts the blonde wig on,? he said.
Rik said the reconstructions would make up part of the hour-long documentary on Marilyn Monroe?s life. He said two more ?In the Body of . . .? documentaries were being made featuring John F Kennedy and Adolf Hitler, with other figures in the pipeline should a further series be commissioned.
