MORE than 30 swimmers made a splash at Tavistock Meadowlands pool in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief recently.
The swimmers ? aged from 10 to 60 ? from the Tavistock area were taking part in the Butlins Swimathon 2003 campaign in aid of the charity. They made their splash during the course of three special sessions at the pool.
A total of ten individuals plus four teams, who swam in relay, completed demanding distances ranging from 1,500 metres to 5,000 metres ? just over three miles.
Lifeguards from Meadowlands became the fastest overall swimmers in the 5,000 metre team category, while Marc Kerswill swam the fastest individual 5,000 metres, completing the course in an amazing 1 hour 36 minutes.
Rob Whitehead, manager of Meadowlands pool, thanked everyone who took part. ?This year?s participants have been fantastic and the swimmers have really trained hard to swim further than ever before. Hopefully their dedication will have paid off when their sponsorship money comes in,? he said.
