Broadmeadow St 5

Okehampton Argyle 1

ARGYLE elected to start with just ten players, due to the late arrival of one car, but were to pay for it as Broadmeadow scored an early goal. The return of Okehampton's first choice keeper was further marked by him having to make some good blocks and be quick off his line as Meadow pressed forward. There was little he could do to stop a further two goals, despite Argyle getting up to full strength.

Okehampton created chances and cooler finishing may have seen a more reflective scoreline. Morgan, who had made a couple of openings for Okehampton, was forced to retire after a collision with the home keeper though the injury is not as bad as first thought.

The visitors came more into the match after half-time and, but for strong defending, were unlucky not to score. Okehampton showed a lack of positional awareness or co-ordination and let their opponents in for two carbon-copy goals. In both instances a defender had not moved up with his colleagues and allowed attackers to be onside and score. The goals were split by Williams, who ran 40 yards to intercept a poor back pass and slipped the ball under the keeper.

The game again highlighted Okehampton's slowness of thought as they were often second to the loose ball or a little lightweight in 50/50 challenges.

They face two of the league's top sides, Twyford and Pinhoe, in consecutive weeks, and will have more than enough chances to show they have the bottle for this game.

Man of the match: Darren Moore.

Exwick U16s 16

Okehampton U11s 1

FIELDING only 10 men against top of the table Exwick, Okehampton's youngsters were overwhelmed by a rampant team who deserved their emphatic win.

Nevertheless, none of the Okehampton boys gave up and they gave all they could to stem the flow of goals.

Particular mention must go to Matt Mortimer in defence and Gareth Tidball in goal. Without their efforts the score could have been 30!

Man of the match was Jamie Atherton who worked hard in midfield and made the goal scored by Simon Bales.

Okehampton U17s 0

Launceston U17s 15

LAUNCESTON merited the three points but their hosts gave up the ghost, after the break, conceding 13 goals when it was only two reasonably fortunate goals that had divided the teams.

Only Scott Leyman, Robbie Sandercock and Darren Gilbert - who is playing above his normal age group - could walk away with any measure of pride.

Manager Richard Bailey could only field the bare eleven but, under such circumstances, those players have to dig in harder and play for their own pride if nothing else.
