Tavistock U14s 3

Callington U14s 3

TAVISTOCK, having already secured second place, were over confident on a cold and wet evening that made life difficult for the keepers. Much of the early play was in the centre of the pitch and McCall scored from a long-range free kick to put Tavistock into the lead despite a determined Callington performance.

Tavistock were having difficulty putting passes together and did not make use of their wide players with an over-reliance on the long ball. But good pressure resulted in Hammond?s shot increasing the lead. Callington responded with a good move that resulted in a goal. Improved interplay between midfield and attack resulted in corners for Tavistock and Derbyshire?s strong header increased the lead.

But Callington showed great character and another goal was scored as Tavistock failed to tackle and Webber was left with no chance. Callington scored an equaliser towards the end.

Man of the match: Kieran Lyle. Manager?s man of the match: Sam Johnson/Simon Kelly.

Looe U14s 1

Tavistock U14s 1

TAVISTOCK changed to a 4-3-3 system for their last game but the team had no width to their play.

Poor marking resulted in Looe going into the lead and with Smith injured Bray came on as substitute. Hammond showed quick thinking as he scored within a crowded area to equalise.

Despite an encouraging start to the second half Tavistock?s final ball was poor and even a number of goalmouth scrambles could not be converted into goals.

A disappointing end to the season cannot take away Tavistock?s great achievement in coming second in the league.

Man of the match: Euan McCall. Manager?s man of the match: Tom Hammond.

Tavistock Thistles 4

Southgate Utd Colts 3

THE last match of the season saw a strong Thistles side determined to finish in style.

Thistles went ahead after a breakthrough goal from Ben Langton after ten minutes, shortly followed by the 100th goal of Thistles? league campaign, scored by Taylor McCormack.

The midfield of Joshua Leeson, Langton and Rhys Dunford kept the pressure on Southgate, creating an opportunity for a strong, lobbed shot from the halfway line for Matthew Jefferies to put them further ahead.

The defending team of Cadan Lowther, Jack Quinn, Bob Finbow and Niall Murphy denied Southgate any riposte until the dying minutes of the first half, when Southgate managed to score.

The second half started with Southgate equalising with two good goals.

Phillip Snell saved several excellent shots. Ben White came on for Jefferies and gave some fresh impetus. Good play in midfield created an excellent opportunity that Ben Pridham converted into the winning goal shortly before the final whistle.

Thanks were expressed to all the boys who have played throughout the season and a farewell to Taylor McCormack who leaves to return to New Zealand.

This result means Thistles have finished the season third in the league and will be playing in the top U12s? league next season.
