PEOPLE with learning difficulties in West Devon are set to benefit from Tavistock this year, as the town's mayor has chosen ROC (Robert Owen Communities) as his charity for the Civic Year.

Mayor of Tavistock Cllr Harry Smith said: 'ROC has been working in Tavistock since July 2011, improving the lives of people with learning disabilities. I hope that, in my year as mayor, I can work with and support ROC Welcome Tavistock.'

Jane Anning, ROC Welcome Tavistock co-ordinator, said: 'This is brilliant news. It will really raise awareness of the club and help support funds for the club activities.'

ROC Welcome Tavistock provides social opportunities for people with learning disabilities. ROC aims to support the club members so that eventually the club will become more member-led to ensure they are planning activities that they want to do in their own community.
