TAVISTOCK Army Cadets have been presented with cap badges by the mayor of Tavistock Cllr Roger Mathew, after completing the recruit stage of their training.

To reach this stage, the cadets have successfully completed three months training in subjects ranging from drill and military knowledge to expedition training and the cadets' role in the community.

Cllr Mathew said he was impressed by what he had seen and heartened by the commitment and discipline of the cadets.

Also at the presentation at Plymouth headquarters Cadet Sergeant Kim Nelson, aged 17 of Tavistock, was presented with the Combined Council for Physical Recreation Award.

After the ceremony, the cadets displayed their skills in first aid and initiative tests.
