THE Mayor of West Devon is asking for businesses or residents, who are unable to order and connect to superfast broadband in Tavistock, to contact him directly.
Cllr John Sheldon, who represents Tavistock North, is a keen supporter of superfast broadband, but said that people are being prevented from benefiting from the stable broadband due to access issues with the fibre cabinet.
The cabinet is situated on land at Church Lane, Tavistock, and for electrical works to begin, the landowner is required to sign a wayleave to allow permission onto the land.
‘The fibre cabinet has been ready for several months to supply superfast broadband but the landowner has not signed off the wayleave for the electricity to be connected,’ said Cllr Sheldon.
‘The date keeps being put back and businesses along with residents are kept in expectation of receiving such service.
‘All other fibre cabinets in Tavistock are live and accepting orders delivering decent, stable broadband.’
People are able to contact Cllr Sheldon on [email protected] with their concerns, telephone number and email.
‘This situation could go on for years, as did the delay in the standing of the fibre cabinet for the same reason. It is only right that people affected by this situation know,’ added Cllr Sheldon.
