ON behalf of Gulworthy Parish Hall Committee and St Paul's Church PCC, I would like say a big thank you to the mayor and mayoress of West Devon, Bill and Christine Cann, for opening our garden fete and dog show at Hele Farm on July 21.

They arrived early and spent all afternoon talking to local people and stallholders. We were all very impressed with their enthusiasm and positive attitude towards rural communities and their problems.

Nothing was too much trouble and when asked to perform the draw for the raffle prizes at the end of the event, Bill did not hesitate.

Your presence was the icing on the cake; thanks Bill and Christine.
