Plymstock v Tavistock

TAVISTOCK won the toss and asked Plymstock to bat on a fast drying wicket.

Conditions were difficult for the bowling side as a strong wind was blowing down the ground.

Craig Alexander made the breakthrough by clean bowling Jack Horton and followed by dismissing Steve Knight lbw.

At the other end, Andy Gauler was running into the gale, bowling with good control. He was rewarded by bowling Julian Brailey for one.

Gauler followed this by bowling the dangerous Dave Orchard.

Plymstock were struggling at 34-4, Keith Willcocks was holding the innings together. The rest of the innings progressed in a similar manner, with the home side bowlers on top. Alexander finished with 4-20 off 11 overs, Gauler 4-42 off 15 overs and Arnie Searle who finished off the tail 2-23.

The Plymstock innings finished on 103 all out, with Willcocks carrying his bat, scoring 43 not out.

In reply, Tavistock lost opener Phil Stephens for five. Arnie Searle then joined John McGahey and the two players put on 53 for the second wicket, before Searle was trapped leg before for twenty.

McGahey, batting with early season fluency, was then accompanied by Dave Manning in compiling the final 36 runs needed for victory, Manning hitting four boundaries which were sheer class.

This win gives Tavistock the perfect start to the season, with a maximum 40-points.

This week Tavistock travel to Brixham, who have also made a great start to the season.
