Tavistock v Ivybridge
TAVISTOCK started their first game of the season against a strong Ivybridge outfit. Having won the toss, Tavistock elected to field first.
Henry Kisby produced a fine display of tight opening bowling and conceded just five runs of four overs.
Will Smith struck first with the ball when Jonty Newton took a fine catch in the slips to remove the Ivybridge opener. Jamie Stephens and Tom Cumming then came on to bowl eight overs of textbook spin bowling and between them went for a total of 28 runs with Cumming picking up two wickets.
Tavistock well lead by skipper Stephens were good in the field and managed to restrict the visitors to a final total of 81 for four of 20 overs, with Aidan Mason picking up the final wicket of the Ivybridge innings when he dismissed Huxtable with a great Yorker delivery.
Tavistock didn't start their batting innings in great style and found themselves in trouble when they lost the first four batsmen for only 14 runs.
This bought Stephens and Rob Grove to the crease and with Tavistock requiring 68 runs of the final 14 overs it seemed an uphill task. Stephens and Grove battle bravely and sensibly against a tight bowling attack. Grove was finally dismissed after a gutsy knock of 15.
Stephens continued to bat well and was picking off the visiting bowlers one by one, with only one over of the game left.
Tavistock required three to win and Stephens was finally dismissed after a brilliant knock of 34. Jesse Sandhis hit the winning runs with one ball to spare resulting in Tavistock winning the match by two wickets.
