Kelly College U15 Girls 3

Truro School U15 Girls 1

THIS was a fiercely contested hockey match on a bobbling grass surface. The game began evenly but it did not take long for Kelly to adjust to the unevenness of the pitch.

Cherry Phypers, captain and centre half, took charge of the midfield. When she was not carving her way through the central defence, she was feeding the ball out to her able wing halves, Charlotte Steadman and Sarah Douglas, who moved play efficiently on to Angharad Mason and Sarah Colville on the wings.

The constant pressure from both wings led to Sarah Colville slotting home two goals in the first half.

In the second half, Kelly's defence was busier with Truro attacking down the right wing. The defence wobbled a little under constant pressure but goalkeeper Emily Wilson kept her team in the game with three excellent saves.

Truro scored a well deserved goal to bring the scoreline to 2-1.

However, Kelly's central defence of Naomi Ward and Muna Padfield stabilised the situation, and as their clearances improved, Kelly made piercing counter attacks with Hayley Wedlake fully involved.

Substitute Tina Wong had a goal disallowed, but Angharad Mason scored her first to give Kelly victory.
