Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 2
Maker with Rame 0
Mary Tavy 2
MARY Tavy secured automatic promotion with this win that sealed the runners-up spot and look forward to life in division 1 next season.
Three seasons ago they were lumbering in division 4 but three promotions in as many years saw them grow in stature and confidence, led by manager Lee Piper.
Tavy went into this game with two points on their rivals but a loss would have seen them pipped by the impressive Maker side currently hot on their heels in third place.
The game was no disappointment with both teams producing chances but standing firm and at half-time no breakthrough had been made.
Tavy knew one goal would give them an immense advantage as Maker would have to press for the win. Matt Salisbury supplied the goal with a cracking opener that flew in off the inside of the post.
Maker had several chances with keeper Tony Rawlings making an outstanding save, turning the ball to safety over the crossbar.
Mary Tavy went further into the lead when Salisbury, seeing his first effort saved, snapped up the rebound to send the side into ecstasy and division 1. It was sensible football now as Tavy played safe and awaited the final whistle.
Mary Tavy expressed thanks to all those involved this year, all the readers of the Times, and those at the Ordulph Arms and look forward to seeing them all next season.
