MARY Tavy ensured their place in the Duchy 2 Cup Final with a convincing 7-1 aggregate score over a game Tywardreath side.

With a 4-1 cushion from the home leg they were always favourites to emerge the victors.

Tavy?s final hopes were boosted when Lee Bartlett sneaked in to open the scoring, latching on to a piercing through ball from Mark Piper to net from close range.

Piper sealed the win by producing a pinpoint cross to the far post for Shaun James to nod Tavy?s second and it was game set and match before the first half was over.

Tywardreath, to their immense credit, never gave up but continued to scrap for every ball and relentlessly tried to claw themselves back into contention.

James hammered the last nail with a penalty as Coole was impeded and at 3-0 the tie was settled.

NANPEAN were 3-0 to the good after 15 minutes.

Tavy struggled to settle, as they had several first choice players unavailable, and found the glaring sun and Nanpean?s rampant striker too hot to handle.

His first strike squirmed into the corner but moments later a superb volley from an acute angle was virtually unstoppable.

The third came from a through ball which left an easy task for the striker to lob keeper Rawlings.

It was all uphill for Tavy. They lost defender Ian Hunter through injury after 30 minutes when he failed to get over a crunching late challenge in the opening minutes. Ben Stephens rallied team morale with a goal but this was cancelled out from a close-range effort from the home team.

Matt Salisbury got Tavy?s second with a splendid effort, then went on to hit the crossbar and almost score another. As Nanpean became more physical two of their players were booked, and one from the touchline.
