A BERE Alston resident is taking the plunge for charity.
Mary Tomes, who works as a nurse at Tavistock Hospital, has decided to do a tandem skydive for Mencap. 'No. I'm not crazy — just mad!' she said.
Mary will be strapped to a qualified skydiver and jump at 10,000 feet, free-falling for 5,000 feet at approximately 120 mph before the parachute opens.
Encouragement comes from her two sons, Michael and Peter, who hope to be there on the day to support their mum.
Michael said: 'Mum's always been there for us and supported our adventures. Now it's time to support her.'
Mencap provides a variety of services to support people with learning disabilities, their families and carers.
Anyone interested in sponsoring Mary for her jump on June 9 — weather permitting — can telephone 01822 840977.
