MEMBERS of the Ju Jitsu Tavistock club attended a jujitsu seminar in memory of the late Billy Doak Shihan who died in November 2009.

The workshop was organised by sensei Greg Regan sensei of the Ryu Jujutsu Association and was held in Saltash. The guest instructor was sensei Barry Davies, one of Billy Doak Shihan's senior instructors. Proceeds, which amounted to more than £600, were passed to Ty Bryngwyn Hospice.

Umberto Bergonzini, the Tavistock club instructor, said: 'I was really saddened and shocked when I first heard of Billy's death as it was so sudden. I first met him in 2002 when I attended what I believe was one of his very first seminars to be held here in Devon. Since then myself and my students attended several of his seminars both here in Devon and in Wales where his association is based.

Although the event had an element of sadness it was good to see "old friends" and to make new ones. And most importantly it was all for a good cause as the entire proceeds were donated to charity.'

Anyone interested in trying jujitsu can contact Umberto on 07866 720361 or come to one of the classes which take place in Launceston, Tavistock and Tamerton Foliot in Plymouth. Beginners are always welcome.
